Troy Deeney was already certain of reaching one milestone when he was named in the Watford side to face Charlton Athletic on Saturday but he achieved another in the 5-0 rout.

The Hornets skipper made his 200th appearance for the club in all competitions and his first-half finish from Gabriele Angella’s pass saw him net his tenth goal of the campaign, ensuring he became the first Watford player to score at least ten times in four consecutive seasons for the club since John Barnes.

The legendary Hornets winger went on to achieve the feat in six campaigns running for Watford – from 1981/82 to 1986/87 – before he moved to Liverpool where he helped the Reds win two league titles, two FA Cups and was named PFA Player of the Year in 1988.

Deeney’s latest scoring landmark, published by Hornets fan and the author of Watford FC On This Day, Matt Rowson, on the Watford Mailing List, means he needs another ten goals to become the first player in the club’s history to score 20 league goals in three consecutive seasons.

The 26-year-old has now scored a total of 70 goals in all competitions for the Hornets, placing him 14th on the club’s all-time list. However, if the former Walsall player does net another ten times between now and May, he will move into the top eight.
