Slavisa Jokanovic says a decision on whether the Hornets will sign defender Zat Knight will be made next week.

The ex-Aston Villa and Fulham free agent joined Watford on trial at the start of last week after leaving MLS side Colorado Rapids at the beginning of February.

The Golden Boys are still hoping to sign a centre-back and Jokanovic hopes to cast an eye over Knight in a friendly game next week before a final decision is made.

Speaking today the Hornets head coach said: "Zat worked yesterday with us. Next week we will try and organise a game for him and then we will make a decision.

"We are not thinking about people who can help us in the future, we want people that can help us immediately.

"We will check to see if he can help us in this short period of the season or not."

Jokanovic was asked on Saturday if he would like to sign Knight, providing he can prove him fitness. He replied: "He is a quality player with a lot of experience.

"Listen, I am in a little bit of a strange situation because I asked for players in January but we are buying at the end of February and March.

"With Marco Motta, I participated in the decision because I had a reason to make this decision. With Zat I will wait a little bit more. He is a quality player but we are not sure if he is ready to help us immediately."
