Daniel Tozser insists there is “no end of the world feeling” in Watford’s dressing room despite the perceived pressure involved with fighting for £120 million and a place in the Premier League.

The forthcoming two weeks could define the Hornets’ season and automatic promotion would be the culmination of three years hard work, following the Pozzo family’s takeover in 2012.

But Tozser dismissed the idea of there being a pressure cooker environment; claiming the expectation of a top-two finish has been there all season. It is business as usual for the Hungary international.

Tozser said: “At this level pressure is a part of football. This season at Watford, we have a really strong squad so the pressure was there for us to be in this situation.

“I don’t think there is now any special pressure. There is no end of the world feeling in the dressing room.

“We are calm and have confidence in ourselves and in each other as a group. So there is no pressure in the dressing room.”

“Yes I am confident [of finishing in the automatic promotion places],” he said. “We have a good team and everyone has the same goal. I believe in the guys and I believe in myself. There is nothing to worry about at the moment.”

A season-defining period for all involved; a potential career highlight for some – it is hard for the layman to believe Tozser’s claims of no additional pressure. The supporters are certainly feeling it.

“We have to let the supporters take that feeling of pressure, perhaps it will mean they will support us even more,” Tozser said with a chuckle.

“I am not a magician and I can’t tell you what will happen. I don’t feel any pressure though in training or on the pitch.”

Tozser has played at the highest level in European club football, featuring in the Champions League and Europa League for Genk, AEK Athens and Ferencvaros. So he will be used to playing in high-pressured environments and is relishing the challenge the next two weeks pose.

He said: “We have been working since the beginning of the season to have this situation; it is what football is really about.

“Some teams are playing for nothing and the players are planning their vacations. We are not in this situation.

“We just concentrate on every training session and every game. We must enjoy every moment of it.”

Watford are currently third in the table having secured a play-off spot, outside of the automatic places by just one goal, and Bournemouth are only ahead of Norwich City and the Hornets by a single point, with Middlesbrough two off the top.

Tozser was speaking on Tuesday afternoon before the top four all won and was asked if he thought Watford needed to win all four games to finish in the automatic promotion places.

“Of course, if someone says that we only have to win one or two then I don’t think they are in a good way,” Tozser replied.

“We want to win every game. You never know what can happen but we will do everything to win.

“It is difficult. There is pressure [on some teams] and some teams [with nothing to play for] can play freely in their mind. So it is a very interesting end to the season.”

Tozser believes it will go down to the final weekend and echoed head coach Slavisa Jokanovic’s view they can’t go into the final three games looking to improve their goal difference.

Watford missed out on automatic promotion on the final day of the 2012/13 campaign and then subsequently lost in the Play-Off Final.

And Tozser said: “Everyone knows what happened with Watford that season but, first of all, this is a completely new team. You can’t compare them.

“When the play-offs are talked about, it is positive motivation. The players don’t want to play in the play-offs, they want to get automatic promotion. That is what everyone is working for.”
