Watford have announced contract talks with are ongoing with Heurelho Gomes, Lloyd Doyley and Rene Gilmartin but Marco Motta, Luke O’Nien and Vujadin Savic will be released by the Hornets this summer. 

Gomes joined the Golden Boys last summer on a free transfer from Tottenham Hotspur. He signed a one-year deal with the club, which expires in June, with the option of an additional year.

Doyley, who underwent successful neck surgery last week, and Gilmartin are out-of-contract this summer but discussions over their future are ongoing. Their deals also end in June. 

Motta, who has won one cap for Italy, joined the Golden Boys in February on a short-term deal after he had been released by Italian giants Juventus.

He went on to make nine appearances for the Hornets and spoke last month about his desire to remain at Vicarage Road. 

He told Tuttosport: “I want to stay in England and with the Pozzo family. We arranged to meet after promotion to talk about the future. So it will be my priority and it will absolutely be for this club. I was very well received [at Watford] and was made to feel part of the project from day one.”

O’Nien has come through Watford’s Academy and is regarded as one of the hardest working players at the club.

He made his Hornets debut against Barnsley during the 2013/2014 season but that was his only first-team appearance.

The midfielder spent last season on loan at Conference South club Wealdstone and helped Gordon Bartlett’s side avoid relegation.

Centre-back Savic joined the Golden Boys on a free transfer in January and Watford's head coach Slavisa Jokanovic stated the 24-year-old was a player for the future rather than an "immediate solution". 

That perhaps explains why the Serbian failed to make a single first-team appearance during his stay at Vicarage Road.

Watford have confirmed they will take up the option to extend the professional contracts of Josh Doherty, Alex Jakubiak and Jorell Johnson by a further year.

The trio will be eligible to represent the Hornets at Under-21 level next season, with the Golden Boys planning to enter a side in an Under-21 league.
