Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has claimed Watford have been the only club to make a formal offer for Diego Perotti.

The Hornets had a club record £7 million bid accepted by Genoa last weekend and had offered the Argentine, who has twice been capped by his country, a contract which would double his wages to £30,000 a week. However, reports in Italy have suggested Perotti turned down a move to Vicarage Road as he would prefer to join Napoli.

Napoli are one of four Serie A clubs interested in Perotti according to Preziosi, but none has made a “concrete” offer.

Speaking to Genoa newspaper Secolo XIX, the club president said: “Watford aside, there have been no other formal offers for Perotti.

“Lazio, Milan, Inter and Napoli showed interest, but then nothing concrete. In my view he’s staying and will not go anywhere.”

Preziosi did admit howeve that Watford’s wage offer to the former Sevilla player may cause a problem for his current club.

“I can’t go mad or break the salary cap,” he said. “I can improve his wages to €1m, but not beyond that. I certainly cannot reach the €1.8m per season deal he was proposed elsewhere. It depends on him."
