Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores says the number of signings the Hornets have made this summer will not have a negative impact on his squad.

The Golden Boys have bought nine players since winning promotion to the Premier League and are set to make that ten with the impending arrival of Steven Berghuis from AZ Alkmaar.

Players who played a key role in helping the Golden Boys secure their place in the top flight are likely to lose their spot in the starting XI when the campaign gets underway at Everton.

Flores, however, doesn’t believe the new additions will destabilise his side. Instead he says every signing Watford have made this summer has been welcomed into the squad.

“Some of our players began pre-season at other teams but we have been collecting, collecting, collecting and waiting for a good situation where we can take the players.

“It [the number of signings] won’t be a problem for us. The players are excellent people so they are creating a high atmosphere.

“Everyone is making good friends so I believe it is easy to put players into this group. They are adapting really easily.”

Several of the new arrivals were on show as the Hornets continued their pre-season campaign at Dundee United this afternoon. A second-half header from Troy Deeney ensured the Golden Boys recorded a 1-0 victory at Tannadice Park.

Watford have yet to taste defeat in their warm-up matches and Flores is pleased with his side’s improvement over the past weeks.

He said: “I am really pleased and I have the sensation that we are progressing. We are very happy.

"Before the game we told the players to repeat their good habits; to try to improve in the defensive system and attack in the parts of the pitch where there are no risks. They did that and the balance of the team is really good.”

The Spaniard continued: “We are on our way. We have different [defensive] options, sometimes we defend deep and other times we defend high.

“We are progressing but we are still making small mistakes. The players are trying to play with confidence though.

“When they receive the ball they aren’t getting rid of it as if it is burning. They are keeping it safe and that is the way forward.”
