Valon Behrami believes Watford lack the experience needed to break down opposition defences in the Premier League and says the Hornets must not become the “nice team to watch who don’t win any points”.
Three games into their top flight campaign the Golden Boys are unbeaten. They’ve drawn 2-2 at Everton and been held to stalemates at home to West Bromwich Albion and Southampton.
Against the Saints yesterday Watford advanced into several promising positions only for the attacking move to break down.
It was a similar story against the Baggies eight days earlier. And it is one Behrami admits has to change in the coming weeks.
When asked if he was concerned follow two goalless home draws, the Swiss international replied: “We’ve shown a lot but we’ve also shown we are not experienced enough in certain situations.
“We need to improve. We can play really well but what ultimately counts is the points you win. We don’t want to be the nice team to watch who don’t win any points.
“It’s better to not play as well if it produces points. That’s what matters. I know the Premier League, it’s not only about good football.”
He added: “There is frustration because when you score and celebrate it gives you a lot of confidence. That’s what we need at the moment.
“We need confidence up front because at the back we look solid. It will only be a matter of time because the strikers are working really hard.”
