London Colney extended their unbeaten start in the South Midlands Premier Division after a 3-2 home win over Bedford on Saturday.

The Blueboys, who are second in the table, opened the scoring after 24 minutes when Tom Smith released Lee Armitt and he fired home to give them the lead.

But Bedford grabbed an equaliser just before the break when Charlie Gregory’s effort was deflected past goalkeeper Daniel Margott.

The hosts regained the lead when Danny Fitzgerald released Armitt and he tucked his shot past keeper Ross Tompkins.

London Colney kept the pressure on and made it 3-1 when Spencer Clarke-Mardel played the ball through to James Ewington and he marked his return to action by netting from six yards out.

Armitt was only denied his hat-trick after a lunging tackle put him off and resulted in him flashing a shot over the visitors’ crossbar.

Bedford captain Dean Dummett made it 3-2 late on when he found the net but the hosts deservedly claimed a third win in four league games.

London Colney are due to visit Oxhey Jets tonight in the league.

The Blueboys are at home to Potters Bar in the preliminary round of the FA Cup this Saturday.
