Watford striker Uche Ikpeazu came off the bench to score and rescue a point for Port Vale against Oldham last night.

The powerful 20-year-old, who joined the Hornets two seasons ago from Reading, is spending the campaign on loan at Vale Park under the guidance of former Golden Boys defender and Valiants boss Rob Page.

Ikpeazu was named amongst the Vale substitutes against Oldham but was introduced just before the hour mark with the home side trailing.

It took him just 13 minutes to make an impact as he converted midfielder Sam Foley’s pass to ensure the points were shared.

“In my whole senior football career I’ve never scored off the bench so to come off the bench and score was great,” Ikpeazu told Port Vale’s website.

“I’m just working hard and I’m ready if called upon. I want to be starting games but the gaffer makes the decisions and I’ve just got to accept it and try and work on my game even more.”

Elsewhere, Sean Murray was replaced by Francisco Junior at half time of Wigan Athletic’s 2-2 draw with Millwall in League One while Connor Smith played the second half of Stevenage’s 2-0 defeat to Mansfield in League Two.

Mexican international Miguel Layun helped loan club FC Porto defeat Chelsea 2-1 in the Champions League last night.

The wing-back was introduced off the substitutes’ bench with ten minutes remaining and immediately whipped in a corner which Danilo Pereira headed against the post.
