Watford Under-21s ended their Professional Development League Two South season with a 2-0 defeat at Birmingham City.
Harry Kewell's side conceded the opening goal when Charlee Adams volleyed past goalkeeper Nathan Gartside.
The Hornets almost equalised through Mahlondo Martin but his strike rebounded off the post.
Alex Jakubiak came close for the visitors in the second half but his shot was well saved by goalkeeper Connal Trueman.
But Birmingham clinched victory late on when the hosts produced a counter-attack and Alex Jones fired his effort into the corner of the net.
Kewell's team ended the season with one league win from their last 14 matches.
Watford: Gartside; Young, Johnson, Hall, Doherty (Charles, 60); Lewis (Adeyemo, 71), Stewart, Byers, Martin (Rowan, 83); Jakubiak, Mensah
