Adlene Guedioura believes Leicester City's title triumph will act as inspiration for everyone and can give Watford the belief to aim for more than safety in the Premier League.

The Foxes completed an astonishing 12 months after evolving from a side bottom of the league last season to being crowned champions on Monday night.

The achievement of the 5000/1 rank outsiders for the title will go down in history as one of the greatest underdog stories in sport.

Claudio Ranieri's team have held their nerve remarkably losing just three league games all season.

Their extraordinary success has also given other unheralded teams in the top flight hope of punching above their weight.

Guedioura said: “I think this story will inspire not only footballers but everyone because it is something unbelievable they did.

"Knowing Riyad Mahrez and talking to him they were not thinking about being in the top three or top ten this season.

"When they finished at the top it was something unbelievable. It’s a great story but especially it’s a good example that everything is reachable if you have a lot of motivation, a good spirit in the team and a manager that brings people to the top."

The midfielder already believes Watford have been a surprise success after staying up comfortably despite the team being among the favourites for relegation at the start of the season.

He said: “For Watford I would say it’s something we did this season because people didn’t expect us to be safe.

"But we did well and it’s going to be good for the next season as well to expect maybe more than just being safe."

The Hornets' priority again next season will be to ensure they maintain their status in the top flight but Guedioura insists there is no reason why the team cannot aim higher than this year.

The Algeria international said: “For sure it’s [target] going to be to be safe first but I think with improvement around the club and the players I think we will want something more than being safe.

"Maybe reach a better place than we are now and why not think about a little bit more like the top ten or something like this.

"But first we have to finish this one and I will tell you more when we come back for pre-season."

Watford mathematically secured their Premier League place after last weekend's 3-2 win over Aston Villa.

Guedioura said: “It was a great thing. I think this is the main aim of the club and everyone here to be safe before the season ends.

"This is what happened so it was really nice to be safe last Saturday. We will try to think about the end of the season to reach the best place we can and hopefully to prepare for next season."
