Quique Sanchez Flores has described this season as an amazing journey and says he will take a lot of good memories from his year in charge at Watford.

The Hornets head coach announced this morning he will leave Vicarage Road at the end of the season.

Flores signed a two-year deal last summer but held a meeting with the board yesterday and the break clause in his contract will bring his tenure to an end after Sunday's match against Sunderland.

The Spaniard has been a popular figure at the club and believes it will be a special occasion in his farewell game in front of the Watford fans.

Flores said: “I’m very grateful to the players. They gave an amazing effort and [there was] amazing feeling with the fans. I love the Watford fans and felt completely happy in this year.

"I enjoy this experience and we have a lot of reasons to be happy because we have enjoyed this amazing journey. We have a lot of good memories of this season."

Watford Observer:

Flores guided the Hornets to safety in the Premier League following last season's promotion.

Watford also reached the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley and he built up a strong relationship with the fans during his year in charge.

Flores said: “Like a professional and a person I felt completely happy. Watford fans were amazing with me and gave me a lot of love. We responded with hard work, focus, results and also a lot of love.

“It will be really emotional and really special in the last match with Watford fans."
