Quique Sanchez Flores says he understands the way football works after announcing his Watford exit at the end of this season and insists he feels free to improve his career.

The Hornets head coach's final game in charge will be at home to Sunderland on Sunday with his time at the club coming to an end following a meeting with the board yesterday.

The Spaniard steered Watford to safety in the Premier League comfortably and also took the side to the FA Cup semi-final.

His exit has baffled many people including West Ham boss Slaven Bilic. But Flores claims his premature departure, which has been caused by a difference in views with the owner, is nothing new to him after working in the sport for more than 30 years.

Watford Observer:

Flores, who will leave after one season in charge, said: “I understand football completely. I’ve been working in football since I was a professional at 19 which is a long time so I understand completely.

"The most important thing is how I feel in this moment. I feel good and complete as a person.

"I feel happy as a manager and have had the opportunity to work in the Premier League with this amazing Watford team. I feel free in this moment with the idea to improve my career and take the good feelings and experience I’ve learnt this year."
