Departing Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores insists his meeting with Gino Pozzo was completely friendly and says the owner is grateful for the team's results this season.

Flores is leaving the club this summer after the board and the head coach were unable to share the same view of this season.

The Hornets comfortably stayed in the Premier League and also reached the FA Cup semi-final but poor results in recent months have ultimately cost the Spaniard his job.

But despite his exit, Flores maintains he has a good relationship with Pozzo and says it was all settled amicably at yesterday's meeting.

The Watford boss said: “I have a good relationship with him [owner] and I can understand everything. Finally we looked at the season from different points of view. It’s nothing more.

"When the points of view are different it’s better to separate the work. We have this kind of clause that is one plus one [years] so we don’t have to draw up a new contract. We just say if we are ready or not to renew the contract but the condition is not good."

Watford Observer:

Pozzo's decision has been taken after a run of 16 points from the last 21 league games.

But Flores says the Watford owner was grateful for the team's results this season after defying the odds as favourites for relegation following their promotion.

The outgoing head coach said: “What I want to say is finally we shook hands and he’s grateful and knows perfectly we had very good results."

Flores added: “It was completely friendly. It’s not about the contract. It’s about the conditions and how we look at the last season. We were not talking about next season or the contract at any moment. Just when you feel that our point of view is not the same.

"We are in a different condition to the start of the season so it’s necessary to be honest. It is the moment to relax and don’t activate the clause [second year]."
