Heurelho Gomes has crowned his impressive season between the posts by winning the Watford Observer Player of the Season award.

The Brazilian, who kept 11 clean sheets in the Premier League this season, was the clear first choice among his teammates, the Hornets travelling supporters and the fans who voted at unprecedented levels online via this website and received his trophy this evening at the club's awards presentation at Wembley Stadium.

Gomes has become the 33rd different player to win the prestigious accolade since it was first presented in 1973 and the seventh goalkeeper following Ben Foster (2007), Alec Chamberlain (1998 and 2002), Kevin Miller (1995 and 1997), David James (1991), Tony Coton (1986, 1987 and 1990) and Andy Rankin (1973 and 1975).

The 35-year-old was runner-up behind winner for the past two years Troy Deeney 12 months ago, but the positions have been reversed as the Watford skipper secured a top-three finish for the fifth year in succession, while Craig Cathcart’s consistency was rewarded with third place.

It was a night of personal triumph for the former Tottenham Hotspur keeper as he also won the Players' Player award and the Individual Display of the Season following his dual penalty-saving heroics in the 1-0 win at West Bromwich Albion.

Goal of the Season was the penultimate award to be handed out and this saw a landslide victory for Adlene Guedioura for his match-winning rocket in the 2-1 FA Cup triumph at Arsenal in the FA Cup sixth round.

Last year’s winner Almen Abdi was second for his goal at Stoke City, while top scorer Odion Ighalo’s first of the season on the opening day of the campaign at Everton came third.

Chelsea loanee Nathan Ake was named Young Player of the Season, while the 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Vicarage Road was recognised as the Team Performance of the Season.

Having claimed the main prize for the last two seasons, Deeney did not walk away empty handed as he won the Community Ambassador gong and the newly established Development Player of the Season was won by Alex Jakubiak.

Hornets great Stewart Scullion became the latest inductee into the club's Hall of Fame and Karoline Hasley was named Supporter of the Season.

Around 700 guests attended the awards in the Bobby Moore Room but among those absent were the Hornets players who are set to be on Euro 2016 duty for their countries this summer and, most conspicuously, departing head coach Quique Sanchez Flores.
