Walter Mazzarri’s agent has described the Italian’s move to Watford as an “excellent opportunity” and says he will “bring his methodology to English football”.

The appointment of the 54-year-old on a three-year contract was officially confirmed by the Hornets this morning and the former Inter Milan and Napoli boss will officially take over as head coach on July 1.

In an interview with Radio Crc reported by Football Italia, Andrea D’Amico said: “Walter took this step towards Watford, which is an excellent opportunity for him.

“London is one of the most important cities in the world, there is an important project in place and Mazzarri wants to influence it both technically and economically.

“There were several options, but what prevailed was his rapport with the Pozzo family. At the moment there were no offers in Italy and Walter was very happy to try an overseas experience.”

Mazzarri will become the fourth Italian to be at the helm of a Premier League club next season – joining Claudio Ranieri, Antonio Conte and Francesco Guidolin – and D’Amico continued: “Mazzarri will bring his methodology to English football, as the technical and tactical capabilities of our coaches are to be envied.

“Serie A might be struggling in economic and structural terms, but we are exporting great players as well as coaches.”
