The Watford Observer understands the Hornets have tabled a club record bid for West Brom striker Saido Berahino.

Watford are believed to have tabled an offer in excess of the £6m spent on Nordin Amrabat in January.

According to reports in the Midlands, West Brom had not received any offer for Berahino this summer but we understand this is not the case.

The 22-year-old forward almost moved to Tottenham Hotspur last summer after netting 20 goals in the 2014-15 campaign and Newcastle United failed with a £21m offer in January.

Berahino's form suffered last season and he only scored seven goals in 35 appearances. He also missed two penalties in West Brom's 1-0 home defeat to the Hornets in April.

The striker has one year left on his contract but is not expected to be sold cheaply with chairman Jeremy Peace having rejected all previous moves for Berahino.

It is understood the bid from Watford has yet to be accepted or rejected by the Baggies.
