Watford are understood to be weighing up their options in the UK loan market with Arsenal defender Calum Chambers a potential target.
The Hornets have already made five signings this summer and are only believed to be interested in adding a centre-back and a midfielder to their squad for next season.
Watford have yet to use the UK loan market and the club can sign two Premier League players for the entire campaign.
Walter Mazzarri's side have been linked with a move for Chambers and the 21-year-old defender is capable of playing at right-back and in the centre.
With the new Italian head coach favouring a 3-5-2 formation it is thought he is keen to add one more centre-back to his squad.
A move for English defender Chambers could appeal especially with the club having to cut their 23 foreign players down to 17 for their 25-man Premier League squad in time for the start of September.
