Walter Mazzarri says their stunning 3-1 home win has given them a lot of satisfaction after Watford defeated Manchester United for the first time since 1986.

The Hornets deservedly sunk Jose Mourinho's side to spark wild celebrations at Vicarage Road as Mazzarri claimed his first victory at home.

Head coach Mazzarri said: “I’m very happy for the fans. They told me it was 30 years that Watford couldn’t beat Manchester United so this win gives us a lot of satisfaction.

“I’m very happy for my players and most of all I’m happy for the three points that gives us the confidence to keep working like we were doing until now.

"It means my work that we do every day on the training ground is giving its roots now on the pitch. We will continue doing this."

There was a carnival atmosphere at Vicarage Road at the final whistle following the Hornets' momentous victory and Mazzarri was particularly pleased for the supporters.

Mazzarri said: “We played very well even against Arsenal and Chelsea here at home but we were more unlucky than today.

"We had only points from away games and this is also another reason why I am extra happy today because this allowed our fans here at home to celebrate.

"The fans deserve it because even in the away games they have always been great and today they were exceptional."
