Jon Clements scored a late winner as London Colney came from behind to win a feisty South Midland Premier Division clash 2-1 against Stotfold.

The Blueboys went behind to Ben L’Honore’s 24th minute free kick, but pulled level in the second half before grabbing an 87th minute winner.

The comeback win was made all the more impressive by the fact Colney completed the match with 10 men after Jack Wood’s red card.

A slow start to the match saw both side’s struggle to create and it took a piece of individual quick thinking from L’Honore to break the deadlock.

After a needless foul, the Stotfold man took a quick free kick which caught the Colney keeper napping and creeped inside his near post.

Colney then thought they had equalised through Spencer Clarke-Mardel, but the linesman’s flag indicted the ball had gone out of play before he finished.

The second half brought a better performance from the home side and a bright start allowed them to level seven minutes after the restart.

Again a set piece provided the opening as Shaw rose highest to connect with Gregg Douglas’ free kick and plant a header past Stotfold keeper Harry Pilsworth.

The hard work put in to level the scores was almost undone by Stotfold moments later and L’Honore was unfortunate to see his strike drift just wide.

The Blueboys’ task was made all the tougher when a flair up on the touchline saw Wood handed a straight red card for violent conduct.

His departure did little to slow Colney’s attacking impetus though, and both Douglas and Tom Silford went close with respective efforts.

Their attacking bravery was rewarded with three minutes to play after some intricate passing play unlocked a resolute Stotfold defence.

Firstly, Dan Power’s throw in found Alfie Osbourne and his through ball released Archie McClelland who skipped past a defender and fired at goal.

The low drive was well saved by Pilsworth, but he could only parry to Clements who dispatched the rebound to earn a dramatic win.
