Alaves boss and former Liverpool defender Mauricio Pellegrino has entered the running to become the new Watford head coach, according to reports in Spain.

Pellegrino has experience of working in England, in the past serving on the coaching staff of Rafa Benitez at Anfield.

He would later follow him to Inter Milan, before taking on the first of his four head coach roles to date with Valencia.

Most recently, he took over at Alaves last summer shortly after the club's promotion to La Liga, and in an impressive first season has led them to this weekend's Copa Del Ray final, as well as a ninth-placed finish in the top flight.
