Ben Clements channelled his inner Joe Root to put on an invincible 102 as Harpenden sauntered to a 100-run win over Letchworth Garden City in the Hertfordshire Premier Division.

The result lifted Harps above their opponents and was equally thanks to some astute bowling, barely allowing Letchworth to make three figures at Whitehorn Lane.

Harpenden elected to bat first and despite dropping two early wickets, found their feet when Clements stepped up to the crease.

He joined opener Gregg Cooper, whose 43 included an 89-run partnership with Clements before he was run out.

Meagre scores continued elsewhere aside from wicket keeper Alex Axon’s 27, as Harpenden made 208-7 from 60 overs.

Ben Frazer and Richard Darwin both handed out dismissals like confetti in response as from 46-3, Letchworth fell to 84-7 with Frazer scalping two ducks.

He also took top-scorer William Bates lbw for 28 and Maxford Pipe by the same method for 11, ending on a ruthless 4-31.

Darwin claimed second top-scorer Peter New for 22, as well as the two final wickets, ending 4-29 as Letchworth were dismissed for just 108.
