Watford’s lack of cover in wide positions could come back to haunt them on Sunday after Marco Silva confirmed Andre Carrillo and Roberto Pereyra are fitness worries.

Carrillo only arrived back in the country from international duty today after journeys to New Zealand and Peru as he helped his country to World Cup qualification.

Pereyra, meanwhile, is in the latter stages of a recovery from the injury picked up against Chelsea last month and may not be fit.

With Isaac Success a long-term absentee, it leaves Silva facing a headache as to who should play in the wide berth against West Ham on Sunday.

“We will need to see. I didn’t see him (Carrillo) for 12 or 13 days and he is coming back today. I will see him maybe today,” Silva said.

“It has been busy travel again for him and he went to New Zealand 12 days ago. We will see what condition he comes in.

“I am sure he will be very happy after an important win for his country but we need to see how he feels.

“It is an important decision for us because as you know we do not have a lot of solutions in this position. We have Richarlison, we need to analyse whether Pereyra can play as well and Carrillo.”

Silva once again reiterated the importance he places on Pereyra and says he will take no risks in the Argentine’s recovery.

“We will see if he is fit. He is an important player for us and we need to take care of him in some situations,” Silva said.

“He didn’t do all the pre-season and in the first match against Liverpool he had one problem. “He is an important player for us, for my philosophy as a club and as a team. He is one player who has started training with the team and we have one more training tomorrow and after I will decide.”

The derth of wide options sees Silva’s early season fears realised after he bemoaned the need for greater reinforcement in the summer.

The Hornets head coach says dwelling on such issues is counter-productive and is instead focused on working with what he has against West Ham.

“When I planned and analysed I knew. I didn’t know we would have this problem with success but we need to be careful because all these things can happen,” he said.

“It is not the best thing but it is our roster and it is not the time to talk about this. I spoke about this situation at the end of the market and now the problems come.

“We started the season with three wingers after we had the problem with Success and if we have a problem with Carrillo or Pereyra it would be an issue, but it is my problem to solve.”
