After the arrival of Gerard Deulofeu Watford’s summer recruitment drive could be set to continue this week, with reports claiming Adam Masina will complete a medical at Vicarage Road.

Watford are said to have agreed a fee with Bologna for the defender, who has accepted personal terms ahead of completing a move.

The 24-year-old has 100 appearances to his name since making his breakthrough at Bologna in 2013 and was a regular last season as he played 34 times.

He helped Bologna to a 15th place finish in Serie A last season and has also played six times for Italy’s Under-21 side.

His arrival would represent an important signing for Watford who were left with precious few options at left-back last term.

Marvin Zeegelaar struggled to adapt to Premier League football after making a promising start to his Watford career and Jose Holebas’ form was erratic.

Holebas is in the twilight of his career and will be 34 by the time the 2018/19 campaign gets underway in August.

Lapses in concentration arose with recurring regularity for the Greek left-back and there was surprise when he was awarded a two-year contract extension in January.

Meanwhile, Brandon Mason was allowed to leave the club at the end of the last season making reinforcements at left-back a necessity this summer.
