Harry Forster is eager to make an impact on the Watford first-team after signing his first professional contract with the Vicarage Road club.

The 17-year-old joined Tom Leighton in penning a one-year senior contract with the Hornets in April, a deal which includes the option of a one-year extension.

Forster was, of course, delighted to sign with Watford and is now out to make the next step and force his way into Javi Gracia’s plans for the first-team.

“It’s what I’ve always wanted,” Forster told the Hornets website. “I’m over the moon. Ever since I signed it’s been the end goal.

“The main target is being in-and-around the first-team. At the end of the day that’s the main goal, to play with the big boys and train with them regularly. Hopefully I get my chance next season.

“I’ve got a taste for it [playing at Vicarage Road] in the FA Youth Cup, hopefully I can do that regularly.”

The transition from junior football to senior is a tricky one to make, and Forster’s tender years mean doing so will be no easy task in the near future at least.

The winger has, however, shown an ability to cope with the test of playing at Under-23 level and has enjoyed the added pressure which comes with playing at a higher level.

“With the Under-23s it is all geared towards the winning side of the game. You want to play well but you do whatever it takes to get over the line and beat the other team,” he said.

“It is a massive step up physically. You can have some first-team players playing down a level, maybe if they’ve been injured, so you’re battling them for headers, strength and speed.”
