Watford goalkeeper Scott Loach promoted to full England squad for qualifiers with Bulgaria and Switzerland

Watford goalkeeper Scott Loach has been called into the full England squad due to Scott Carson’s withdrawal.

Carson has pulled out of the squad for England’s matches with Bulgaria on Friday and Switzerland next Tuesday due to a family bereavement.

So Loach has been promoted from the Under-21s for the second time after making the bench in last month’s friendly with Hungary.

I worry for our goalkeeping position if Carson and Loach are the best under-studies around!

Well done Scot! It's an honour for the club to have a full international in the team!

Am i right in thinking the last full England international for Watford was Barnes?

Crikey has it been that long????

Good luck to Loach

But the England goalkeeping situation is in a sorry state if a rookie keeper in championship football is 3rd choice for the national team

And just how many English goalkeepers are first choice for their respective Premiership clubs??

Are you having a laugh. Have you forgotton Ben Foster during his time at Watford...

Are you having a laugh? Ben Foster was a Man Utd player at the time, on loan at Watford. Scott Loach is , like John Barnes used to be, a watford player.

Does this call up mean we will have to Pay Lincoln more money if he makes a full cap?

Birmingham- Ben Foster
Blackburn- Paul Robinson
Fulham- David Stockdale
Man City- Joe Hart
Newcastle- Steve Harper
West Brom- Scott Carson
West Ham- Robert Green
Wigan- Chris Kirkland

So thats 8/20, which while not good enough, is better than other positions in the England team. Also, Blackpool keeper Matt Gilks was born in England, but it looks like he's going to play for Scotland.

From a watford goalkeeping situation we must give great credit to Alec Chamberlain goalkeeper coach who has coached both Foster and Loach

In my opinion Alec should replace Ray Clemence as England goalkeeper coach.!

Clemence is one of the FA old boys club, otherwise Shilton would be coaching the England keepers.

8 English keepers playing in the premiership tells it own story..!

Get a life Harry!
You've only just joined this forum, and I dont remember a single positive contribution from you. Me, however, I have posted hundreds, and will continue to do so, as I support WFC. We dont need negative muppets like you.
Personally I rate Loach at Championship level, and lower Prem level. I was merely stating that the level of goalkeepers for England is very worrying!! Get the picture!

Am I the only one who is a little bored with the 'smile or die' attitude of the self righteous posters who insist that this forum is for 'positive' comments only?

Loach is an average second division goalkeeper and the fact that he is on the verge of the England first team, is further proof that the English national team will soon be in the same position as Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland - with too few players of any calibre to pick from.

If you read it again at best he is 4th, Carson withdrew, however I personally feel Westwood (Coventry) & Joe Lewis (Peterborough) are much better prospects.

Plenty of England Goalkeeper have gone on to achieve nothing in the game I would sell whilst his stock is high!

Sadly plenty of English players highly rated at a young age have often gone on to do nothing....

It is quite amazing that probably the best goalkeeper in the Championship admits that there is no opening in the Prem at the moment where he will be the first choice stopper. He admits in the Eve Standard article below that he needs to move to the Prem to really challenge for the England top spot, so I guess the Jan window will be very interesting.********

ord goalkeeper Scott Loach has conceded he will have to move to the Premier League to become a regular in the England squad.

Loach has been called up from the Under 21s for Friday's Euro 2012 qualifier with Bulgaria following Scott Carson's withdrawal because of a family bereavement.

Loach, who was linked with Fulham and Manchester City this summer, was also named on the bench for last month's friendly win over Hungary.

The 22-year-old is keen to establish himself in Fabio Capello's senior squad and he knows the best way of doing that is by playing in the Premier League.

"I'd definitely have a better chance of getting in the England team if I was playing week in, week out in the Premier League," Loach told the London Evening Standard.

"That's where you've got to look, though there's not really an opening anywhere at the moment where I would walk into a team.

"I don't find the idea of stepping up daunting, it's exciting.

"I believe that if I was to get an opportunity to play at a higher level that I'd be able to step in and do a job as I am confident in my own ability".

This is great for Watford - we can offload at a greatly inflated price for a very average player..
