German club Hamburg describe Watford's loan bid for Anis Ben-Hatira as 'nonsense'

German side Hamburg have this week confirmed Watford tried to sign winger Anis Ben-Hatira on loan but described the proposed move as “nonsense”.

Hamburg general manager Bastian Reinhardt revealed both the club and the 22-year-old winger, who had a trial period with West Ham United in the summer, rejected the move.

A translation of what Reinhardt told the club’s website read: "In recent days he was off to England to have a trial period with Watford and they were trying to land him on a six-month loan deal, without knowing him as a player.

"This looked nonsense to him and to our club. This is why he is staying on."

I should think Malky was probably thinking back to the era when Aidy B brought a few overseas guys on quite expensive contracts which failed to work out.

To us a loan would have made sense but there you go.

Player probably thought "Watford..who?" anyway!

Is this how our "first class recruitment system" really works.

Very revealing.

What's your response to this Mr Winter????

So clearly we were doing the right thing, bring him over for a trial and if he is any good take him on loan..what is wrong with that? The picture shows that he previously played for West Ham so to say we knew nothing about him is total nonsense

In any case, do we really need him? Buckley has been excellent this season so far, why not show some faith in his ability. We did, after all, pay £300,000 for him.

Mackay seems to be on the verge of becoming another Steve Harrison - buying a player, then forgetting about him...i.e. Dave Bamber, Stuart Rimmer, Rick Holden etc etc.

How about giving Bryan a go, he clearly has some ability.

I'd agree with that but then guess Malky doesn't want to throw another youngster in at the "deep end" under pressure...

To me Buckley has pace but does appear to get knocked off the ball rather easily or end up going no-where as with most young wingers who just need some coaching and time which most fans would give but you know a minority wouldn't or expect great things straight away.

TBH Rick I think we would be wiser giving such potential buys from overseas a loan move if they aren't proven...afterall remember the likes of Aloi,Rinaldi and Sietes who came for good fees/fairly decent wages and were hardly seen in action.

What Hamburg maybe do not know is that there are 3 or 4 ex Watford employees working for West Ham (Physio, Kit Man and Strength and Conditioning Man) So the lads character could have been vouched for and we must have seen him play.

Erm, you do realise there's two sides of a football pitch, and one winger can not cover them both simultaneously?

I'll wait for any comment from Malky or somebody related to the club, before making my mind up.

By the sounds of things a Bundesliga team made a derisory offer, and we were simply interested.

Blimey ... well done Tony .... this insight abouy our illustrious ex Watford employees explains why Malkay's mob are doing so well!!! Do the Hammers fancy Dyche! Spit the dog would do well at the Hammers... Wish we could have a transfer window for dodgy coaches that only abuse 4th Officials!!

WFC shouldn't even start about Rinaldi - a great talent that Boothroyd actually signed and then totally wasted.
This episode just shows Hamburg as a bunch of muppets. They can have no idea about the player being watched and their response is just stupid under any circumstances.

Having worked in Hamburg for a number for a number of years I am sure this is just something that has got lost in translation. The German people are far too polite and diplomatic to deliberately slur anyone.

By the way, to describe Hamburg - one of Europe's greatest club sides - as 'muppets' says it all about the mentality of some of the contributors to this forum.

Quite so Prof. I always find it depressing when the French, German and Dutch players tend to speak English better than many of the English lads.

Why all the criticism aimed at our club and management. Life is difficult enough without money and a good sized fanbase....Are these critics the ones who stood up and applauded Hoofers, calling out his name and yet remind me in his reign did he not with the help of prudent management waste millions on players who were not good enough, cost a fortune etc and yet were all approved of by Aidy Hoofers Football genius... There are only one set of muppets and most of them sit in the Rookery

Its because they go to school and learn English rather than bunk off one suspects!
