Watford striker Troy Deeney a doubt for Leicester City

Deeney a doubt for Leicester Deeney a doubt for Leicester

Sean Dyche is hoping Watford striker Troy Deeney will be fit to face Leicester City tomorrow night.

Deeney is struggling with a hamstring problem but Dyche hopes the striker, who has scored twice in his last three games, will be fit when he is reassessed.

Dyche said: "Troy has a niggle but we hope it will be okay. We will find out for sure tomorrow."

Martin Taylor and Stephen McGinn remain the only definite absentees. Taylor is out with a broken toe and will have further scans to see how his recovery is progressing next week.

Leicester are expected to be unchanged despite Sol Bamba returning from the African Cup of Nations and Neil Danns coming back from suspension. Danns' replacement Paul Gallagher scored both goals during Saturday's 2-1 win over Cardiff City.

City remain mid-table in 12th but have improved recently; winning four of their last six and their only defeat came courtesy of a last-minute goal by Will Buckley when Leicester were down to ten men.

Nigel Pearson, who returned to the club as manager in November, is hoping to guide Leicester to back-to-back wins for the first time since February 2011.

Dyche is not surprised Leicester, who were joint favourites to win the league before the campaign started, have improved of late.

He said: "I would imagine with the power in their squad that they would show signs of improvement over time.

"They have strength in depth and spent millions assembling a squad of high quality players.

"It takes new teams time to gel together and improve and I am sure Nigel Pearson will get his side to do that."

Watford are looking to strengthen their squad but Dyche confirmed: "No there is nothing on the cards at the moment. We are very active but nothing is set to happen as we talk now."

It looks like we will have the comedy act of Emu performing, if so the Leicester defence need not turn up.

Deeney's handstring problems must be down to Dyche's training regimes, Dyche is a discrace get him and Bassini out. Bring in a Watford legend like Tommy Mooney or Alex Bonnet as manager

Hope he sorts something out sooner rather than later, perhaps Man City will loan us Tevez for the rest of the season win win I'd say ;-). Seriously not sure about tonights game it is going to be tough one.

so who do we start with then?
Massey with big C or Garner up there instead. Whatever combination is hardly going to strike any fear into the
opposition.
I realise that you cant help injuries but this total lack of ambition with the loan market (to date) is hardly encouraging for the supporters.

is the cold hard truth that no manager wants his players at this club

This is just a cover story - Deeney withdrawn from squad and will go on loan to Arsenal to replace Henry - permanent move on the cards, but could not be concluded in time. Iwelumo to play upfront tonight to show garnr how it is done.

This is not good, Iwelumo and Garner, despite their work rate and efforts, must be the weakest front two in the division. Understand Dyche wanting to take time with choosing loanees but come Palace we really must have another striker in on loan. It really isnt good enough atm. We are playing well but not quite sure how.
Also I am not happy that Yeates is no longer a starter. Whilst he may lack a bit of pace he is one of the first dead ball specialists that we have had at the club for a while and he can deliver a great cross. He had loads of assists this season back when he was still in the team. Give him another chance Dyche!

Last sentence is beyond stupid. Rather like your praise of Yeates further down.

Endean-Massey is out on loan. Murray is set piece taker now and is better than Yeates anyway.

Really? Murray is a better player than Yeates after 3 games is he?
Ralphinator- I was always of the opinion that we were the sort of club that premiership managers would love to loan their talented youngsters out to. In the last few seasons and under Malky and Brendan we were, we had some cracking players on loan. Now though it doesnt appear that Dyche has the same contacts or that the club has the same draw as it did before. How else can you explain our frankly pathetic showing of loanees (Nosworth aside) that have been brought in this season.

I thought Kightly played quite well in his short spell and no way can it be described as "pathetic".

Changing gears, nice blog from Matt Holland;

While we're on the subject of top npower Championship players it was interesting to learn that Watford defender Adrian Mariappa turned down the opportunity to sign for Wigan Athletic in the transfer window.

I've seen a lot of the Hornets this year and he's another young player that can step up a level for sure. He's a great competitor, pacy and useful in the air.

It takes a lot of self-belief to reject the overtures of a Premier League outfit but with Newcastle United also in the market to sign him, he will be confident that others will show an interest this summer.

Watford's production line of talent shows no sign of slowing down - they deserve great credit for the work they do with young players.

While I accept that one man's meat is another man's muesli, how anyone can sing Yeates's praises is beyond me. He is, to my eyes at least, one of the laziest, most incomplete players I have ever seen. His total lack of ideas when faced with a defender is matched by his inability to get a decent cross over when he isn't. Our (lack of) quality from set pieces has been a depressing feature of this season and he is largely to blame.

Yeates or Murray - one starts, the other should be on the bench, you can argue which is which. But we do REALLY need an additional striking option other than just big Chris. I don't understand why Sean hasn't signed someone up. I hope we're not losing out by scrimping on a few ££s or assuming that the 12 points gap means we are safe. We aren't yet - we've played a game more than NF, and 2 more than Doncaster.

Another striker would be useful, but it must be somebody who can offer something ( ie. 'goals').

As we have seen in recent years it becomes more difficult to recruit loans after Christmas, clubs pick up injuries and suspensions and if faced with a risk of relegation (anyone below half way in the Prem) then the risk of getting caught short outweighs the desire to develop.

The only clubs that are immune from this process are the top six who have enormous development squads with a high number of players who could do a job in the Championship. So, surprise surprise, where are all the clubs looking for potential loanees !?

We do produce good young players at Watford, and we bring on good young players from other clubs whilst they are on loan, so why have we not got good striker cover as soon as one player gets an injury?
In previous seasons we have been able to bring in good cover for any first team shortages. let's hope we don't pay the price tonight. COYH

For all those supporters out there slating Yeates and his contribution, why don't you go take a look at the Championship Top Assist Makers for this season. You will see Yeates sitting comfortably there in joint 5th place.

Hardly a disgrace. It's right there in FACTS - he is a useful Championship player and decent in dead ball situations, as is Murray.

Both Murray and Yeates to start for me tonight with Kacaetcetc on the bench as an impact player to attack tiring legs.

Stats are ( as I have said many times) the clutching at straws of a failing arguement. Yeates is a poor Journeyman ( probably a very nice bloke) but offers little- even his free kick goal wasn't a good connection and crawled over the line. Few times have i seen a player bottle more tackles- put himself in a position he can't be passsed to then throw a wobbly when he didin't get the ball, fails to beat a player time and time again. Lacks vision, creativity and the speed of thought and body to play at this level- bench is the safest place for him. Murrray every time or indeed anyone else- just my opinion

Good lord.... I'm afraid that stats don't lie. Many a profession is judged on Statistics, including that of a footballer. For example, Fernando Torres is a very gifted footballer but is a failure thus far at Chelsea and the STATS confirm this! Anyway, back to Yeates, he has created more goals than any other watford player this season. Are you saying his assists are all flukes?!
I dont rave about him but am happy to see him used in squad rotation as SD sees fit, and he is not as useless as people make him out to be. If he was he would have very few assists.
