St Albans City Youth Under-11s South got their season off to an ideal start with victory at the Dunstable nine-a-side tournament.
The team sailed through the group stages undefeated with wins over Shefford Saints, Dunstable Town, Luton United and Kings Langley.
The defensive trio of Sam Doidge, Jake Flemming and Mark Allan kept the opposition at bay. New signings Tim Davies, who ran riot on the right wing, and Tom Dodd who bossed the centre of midfield were outstanding.
Oliver Townsend got his first goal for the club while Dan Eaves played as the lone striker scoring four goals. Orson Campos didn’t stop running all day and deserved his trio of goals but Louis Baker-Madec was the engine of the team and top scorer with nine goals.
In their final game against Luton United went to penalties after a 1-1 draw. Keeper Samuel Pollard was their hero as he pulled off two fine saves in their 4-1 victory.
Meanwhile, London Colney reserves won 3-1 at home to Kent Athletic despite going a goal down after 25 seconds. The goalscorers were Yasin Boodhoo, Ed Frost and Jack Woods.
