Jones Cup final defeat for St Albans

St Albans suffered a defeat in the final of the Jones Cup against Potters Bar.
The team of Alan Turner, John Bartlett, Ken Budd and Tony Rylands played against Terry Barker’s side while the other team for St Albans featured Andy Kay, Ted Salvidge, Ken Harding and Steve Wilson. But both lost their rinks.
The finals of both the men and ladies of St Albans & District competition were held at the weekend.
On Saturday Dave Kiff and Steve Wilson of St Albans played their pairs final against Roy Banks and John Bell of Hatfield but lost 24-16.
In the ladies finals of the triples league St Albans played against Oak Hill.
The team of Pauline Gardiner, Brenda Pitkin and Joyce Wilson won 22-18 but Sylvia Cooper, Jacy Farrer and Tricia Gascoine lost 17-11. The aggregate score saw Oakhill edge to a 35-33 win.
In the afternoon Gardiner and Gascoine played the Australian Pairs against Mary Banks and Barbara Albrecht of Hatfield but St Albans lost 2-0.
St Albans played Beech Hill in a four rink mixed triples match and lost 78-52. Their top rink was Maralyn Pomeroy, Tony Morris and Salvidge (21-11).
The club beat Hemel Hempstead in a five rink triples midweek match by 89 shots to 75. The best rink for St Albans was Colin Smith, Bob Pomeroy and Phil Macarthur (33-9).
The ladies of St Albans teamed up with hosts Townsend to play St Albans & District Ladies’ Bowling Association.
St Albans fielded three rinks, winning on two of them. Townsend fielded three triples and also won on two. Even though St Albans & District ladies lost on four of the six rinks they won the match overall.
