Townsend clinch record London and Southern Counties Shield win

Townsend won the London and Southern Counties Shield after a record final victory.
The team produced a superb display as they defeated Eastleigh Railway by a huge 49 shots to triumph 98-49 with their opponents throwing in the towel with six ends still left to play.
The top rink, of Andy Bates, Andy Scarborough, John Godman and Simon Gilbert led the way by scoring seven shots on the fifth end, on their way to recording a 30-7 win.
The other rinks who all participated fully in this dramatic victory were Jason Hall, Robbie Ransted, Gary West and Danny Macro; Alan Charran, Carl Robinson, Dave Houghton and Andrew Briden; and David Day, Roger Potter, Peter Armstrong and Richard Briden.
The St Albans and District Finals took place at Welwyn and Townsend were well represented. Peter Thomson won the District Singles title, was runner up in a dramatic finish in the officer’s singles and also collected the winner`s trophy for the triples.
Gilbert, Houghton and Hall, fresh from their triumph in the Shield, recorded yet another impressive margin of victory, by 26 shots to eight, when, after 13 ends, their opponents from North Mymms decided enough was enough.
