London Colney upset league leaders Hanwell Town
3:10pm Tuesday 17th September 2013 in Local Sport
London Colney continued their revival with a 2-1 home win over South Midlands Premier Division leaders Hanwell Town.
Danny Fitzgerald had a effort go close early on whilst for the visitors Ian Bywater fired a shot right across the face of the goal and Bill Healey drove in a low strike which also went just past the post.
With no score in the first half it only took 20 seconds of the second period before the Blueboys were in front.
Greg Shaw played a neat pass to Fitzgerald who quickly turned and struck a fantastic effort past Fenner from the edge of the box.
In the 72nd minute Hanwell drew level when a cross from the right saw Bill Healey tap the ball into the net.
Matt Newman was then replaced by Jimmy Hill and minutes later he put the Blueboys back in front.
Hill’s free-kick was not dealt with by the keeper as it slipped into the net.
A rash challenge resulted in a red card for Hill but the hosts held out.
The Under-14s made a fantastic start to the season with a 4-2 win over St Albans City in the Challenge Cup.
The team put in a fantastic all-round effort with Luke Haberfield making some vital saves in goal. Dylan Burke and Jake Riseborough scored a brace each.
The Blueboys Reserves drew 0-0 away to Oxhey Jets Reserves while London Colney Blues won 4-2 against Croxley Committee Reserves with Eamon Rogers (two), Yande Siwale and Connor McGrath on target.
