Harpenden fall to Chiswick defeat
4:50pm Tuesday 1st October 2013 in Local Sport
Harpenden RFC failed to hold on to their lead as they lost 24-14 at Chiswick in London North West Two.
The team went into the match in confident mood after claiming two decent league wins.
From the kick-off, the Harpenden pack came out all guns blazing and soon found their reward with a try from Tristan Francis after good work by Jackson Cooper Wall, who stormed through the Chiswick line before releasing the ball to his backs.
No sooner had the try been converted than Harpenden were on the prowl again. A period of good attacking rugby was finished off with a strong run from right wing Adam Stirling down his touchline.
This try, the second to be converted successfully by Jannick Green, took Harpenden into a comfortable 14-0 lead and it looked as though Chiswick were going to be given a rugby lesson.
However, back-row Riki Darroch had other ideas. His try five minutes from half-time pulled the home side back from the brink.
In the second period, three further tries, including one more from Darroch and a penalty try, sunk a Harpenden side struggling with injuries to key forwards.
Harpenden play Honourable Artillery Company on Saturday at home.
