St Albans City joint manager Graham Golds insists the atmosphere at the club is “buzzing” and has appealed for the fans to continue their support as the Saints push for promotion.

City are in the thick of their play-off push in the Southern Premier Division and have been boosted by bumper crowds at Clarence Park in recent weeks.

Golds admits everyone is enjoying the atmosphere at the club and has urged the supporters to come out in force again for their upcoming home games.

Golds, whose side visit Arlesey Town tonight, said: “The players are revelling in it at the moment. We’ve had virtually double the average attendance over the last two home games and it would be great if we could get them back. We need everyone pulling in the same direction.

“We’ve had about 1,500 people in the last two matches so our average has really picked up and things are looking up.

“The support has been absolutely amazing and the atmosphere has been growing and getting better every week.

“All the boys can see the play-offs in their sights. The place is buzzing at the moment and the club is alive so we just have to keep that going.”

The Saints host Weymouth this Saturday before entertaining promotion rivals Bideford on Monday night in the first of successive games against them.

Golds said: “We’ve got back to back games against Bideford and they will be very tough. If we can beat them in the first one then it will be a big dent for their promotion hopes but both games are six pointers.

“Since their new manager has come in, Weymouth’s results have started to pick up and they always give us a good game.”

St Albans strengthened their squad by signing attacking midfielder Sam Corcoran. The former Colchester United, Chelmsford City and Hayes & Yeading United player has recently been competing for Albany Creek Excelsior FC of the Australian Brisbane League.

But he will have to wait for his Saints debut after picking up a foot injury during training.

Golds said: “He was playing out in Australia and has been training with us since November but we were waiting for international clearance.

“He picked up a broken bone in his foot whilst training so we’re waiting for his injury to heel but we’re hoping he'll be fit by the end of February.

“He has a good pedigree and is a decent lad. He's strong, good on the ball and makes things happen. It will be nice to get him in the fold and he'll definitely give us strength in the midfield.”

The Saints staged a dramatic fightback last week after overturning a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 at Burnham in the league.

Gold's side were two down after just five minutes but goals from James Comley, John Frendo and James Kaloczi completed a memorable comeback.

“We scored three cracking goals and were very happy to come away with the three points,” said Golds. “We needed to come away with the win and it was a big three points for us to pick up. Every game we need to pick up maximum points to keep up with the top sides.

“We found ourselves 2-0 down after being hit by a couple of sucker-punches.

“We showed outstanding character to get back in the game. The pitch was awful and we couldn't play our usual passing game on it so we had to go long and more route one.”

The Saints had a free weekend with no game on Saturday although they did arrange a friendly with Wealdstone. However this match was called off after a number of players were unavailable to play.

Golds said: “We had a few players who booked to go away because we weren't playing and it was James Kaloczi's birthday. The idea was to try and give people a run-out but because most of them were away there was no point playing the match.

“We trained on Saturday to get the team morale going and it was good to get them in and training on the pitch.

“We would rather be playing because we want to stay in the top five. We never like a break especially as we had caught up ground on the top teams and we want to be among them and keep on climbing up the table.

“If you stand still then you go backwards so we're always trying to improve.”

Golds added: “If we play consistently well then we will be there or thereabouts. We have to aim as high as we can. We want to have a massive push until the end to try and chase down Chesham. If we can do that then we can try to catch Hemel.”

The Harpenden Construction Limited January 2014 player of the month award went to James Kaloczi.

The award will be presented to him, prior to next Monday's game against Bideford by Mick O’Shea, owner of the Courtyard Café in Hatfield Road, who is the sponsor.
