Three members of St Albans Sub Aqua Club have been invited to train with the Great Britain Under-16 squad.
Hannah Collier, Jodi Collins and Rhiannon Warr have been selected to train with the GB squad.
The St Albans underwater hockey team is the local British Sub Aqua Club branch which trains every Thursday at Westminster Lodge during term time as well as Wednesday nights for the more advanced players. The age range of the squad goes from ten year olds up to 72.
The youth team consisting of Nick Brett, Ben Collier, Hannah Collier, Jodi Collins, Luke Collins, Adam Honeywell, Olivia Markwell, Rhiannon Warr, Toby Warr and captain Liam Worswick played a friendly match against Dunstable at their pool and won 13-0.
The club are preparing for a tournament at Westminster Lodge on June 14 featuring Dunstable and two other teams.
St Albans’ head coaches Tim Attwood and Dan Beha run the practice games, training sessions and theory, but the club also run introduction to snorkeling lessons held by Elizabeth Kerr and Ali Humphreys. The basics of underwater hockey are coached by Alex Kerr, Roy Harrison and Max Monk. The club will be running a volunteer water point for the St Albans Half Marathon near Batchwood which will bring in some donations with the youth team making up the majority of their volunteers.
