Two young Redbourn Golf Club members were prize winners at the club’s Kinsbourne course on the Herts Futures Tour.

Maddie Rolph, 10, and Sophia Fullbrook, 8, came first and second respectively in Division Two of the event – for those with handicaps of 25 and above.

Now in its fifth year, the Futures Tour is open to boys and girls between the ages of six and 12.

The Redbourn Golf Club’s season opener attracted a record number of entries with 92.

Prizes were awarded in two handicap divisions for best and runner-up gross and nett scores, with an extra prize for a birdie too. Forty-four children were awarded their first Futures Tour handicap, with the lowest gross score on the day being an impressive five over par 32.

On tour, each child is assigned to one of three houses: the Hawks, Falcons or Kites and a team trophy is also awarded at each event.

The tour moves on to more of the best par three courses in the area with one tournament a month from April to October.

It was originally founded by Mark Day of Whipsnade Park Golf Club and Redbourn Golf Club’s own junior organiser, Mark Knight, who was recently honoured with an award from England Golf for his voluntary work promoting junior golf.
