Harpenden were beaten 44-36 by Barton-le-Clay in the area final of the national two fours.

It was the furthest the team have reached in the competition and after 18 ends the scores were tied at 35 shots each. The team of Rob Newby, Ken Murray, John Osborn and Tom Muir led 22-16 while the team of Noel Roberts, Kevin Brazier, Tony Redford and Nick Muir were 19-13 down.

At that point the opponents stepped up a gear, picking up three shots on Tom Muir's rink and five on Nick Muir's in the last three ends to seal victory.

Roberts, Eamon Roberts and Doug Hall beat Shire Park 22-7 in the quarter-final of the two wood triples.

Cynthia Williams, Diana Davies and Lesley Tutt beat an Oak Hill team 16-10 in the district triples.

Dena Roberts, Janet Hubball and Jan Holland also had a good win against a team from Potters Bar. The men’s side of Doug Rodger, Colin Driscoll, Rick Catchpole won 25-12 after 16 ends to win through to the district triples semi-final.

Colin Driscoll and Rick Catchpole beat Richard Morgan and David Day (Townsend) 27-5 in the quarter-final of the district pairs. Barrie Hills and Hall lost their fourth round match against Mick Andrews and David Neilson from Harperbury 25-17.

Roberts and Holland won the district pairs against Harpenden's Val Thomson and Pauline Taylor.

The Centenary Cup between Dunstable, Tring and Harpenden saw Dunstable win the competition.
