Pauline Gardiner progressed to the quarter-finals of the St Albans & District Ladies’ Bowling Association Champion of Champions Competition.

The St Albans member, who beat Mary Banks of Hatfield 21-15, made no mistake when handed the deciding shot of the game and will face Norma Brown of Hemel Hempstead on a neutral green in the next round.

Eileen Englebright and Diana Tribe won in the second round of the Ladies’ District Pairs against Sheila Pell and Mary Kinzelmann of Hemel Hempstead.

St Albans ladies played Shire Park in the Friday triples league, gaining five league points with a 13-13 tie at home and a 10-15 away victory.

The men’s side played Welwyn & District BC in the Friday triples league and came away with an overall loss of 34-27.

St Albans ladies, with a team consisting of Jill Morris, Eileen Cox, Sybil Steers and Tricia Gascoine, beat Batchwood in the County League 17-10.

Harpenden defeated St Albans in the County League on both rinks - amassing a combined result of 61-27.

The men also lost 54-46 to Luton Town at the weekend in a close contest decided only in the last two ends when the Saints dropped a number of shots.

Three mixed rinks played against De Havilland with a 66-41 victory to St Albans.

In the district league, the Ladies played Harpenden - winning on one rink and losing the other two.

Harpenden won the overall tie 67-56 gaining 60 points to St Albans’ 20 points.

In a midweek tie, the men lost 74-55 to North Mymms in the district club rink league.

The ladies played in the county league against Harpenden, losing 23-11.
