Harpenden’s Beryl Birch has reached the semi-finals of the district singles.

Birch beat Sue Allen of Harperbury 21-18.

In the men’s District semi-finals, Rick Catchpole was in three disciplines, the pairs, triples and fours.

Playing with Tony Smith, Rob Peppiatt and Simon Burgess in the fours, they beat Townsend 23-15.

In the triples he played with Doug Rodger and Colin Driscoll.

Their match against Welwyn Garden City was much closer and resulted in a 20-19 win.

In the pairs, Catchpole was with Driscoll against Townsend and the game went down to the last bowl with Harpenden losing 20-19.

Harpenden defeated St Albans Bowls Club in the County League.

Winning on both rinks, the team of Woodie Donoghue, Kevin Brazier, Tony Redford and Nick Muir won 31-16 and the rink of Rob Newby, Noel Roberts, David Brooks and Tom Muir won 28-11. The ladies played St Albans in the county league and won 24-11. The team was Debbie Turner, Pauline Taylor, Jan Holland & Linda Brooks.

In the ladies district league Harpenden also played St Albans at home. They were winners on two rinks and lost on one, gaining 60 points to 20.

The shot score was 76-67 and top rink was Lorna Thomson, Dena Roberts, Val Christiaans and Lesley Tutt.

Harpenden are now also in the final of the Bob Vise Trophy. They defeated Hatfield in the semi-final and will meet Potters Bar in the final.

Noel Roberts won the singles and the triples of Rob Newby, Doug Hall and Tom Muir also triumphed.

As the rink of Eamon Roberts, Ken Murray, David Brooks and Tony Redford lost, the game hinged on a win by the pairs. However Colin Driscoll and Nick Muir won by three shots.
