St Albans clinched an 86-80 win over Harpenden in their midweek friendly.

The top rink was Mike Jefferies, Robin Farrer and Tom Banfield (21-13).

The ladies’ midweek match away at Barnet had to be abandoned due to a thunderstorm.

Elsewhere, St Albans claimed a 103-94 win over Potten End on Saturday.

Although St Albans lost on four of the five rinks, it was the top group of Oliver Wall, Sylvia Cooper, Jim McGregor and captain Steve Wilson scoring 32-6 which helped them to the narrow overall win.

The Sunday game was reduced to four triples against Beech Hill. It was very close until the last few ends when St Albans lost 65-59. The top rink was Fred Bullock, Bob Pomeroy, and Jacy Farrer (19-14).

St Albans had four teams competing in the St Albans & District Ladies Bowling Association Australian Pairs competition.

One pair conceded because of the weather. Two other games went to the third set to decide the eventual winners but St Albans lost both these games. The only successful pair was Pauline Gardiner and Tricia Gascoine who won 2-0 and will play a team from Potters Bar in the next round.
