Townsend clinched the Mather Trophy after a 15-shot victory over Harperbury.

The trophy saw Townsend win by three rinks to one. Top rink for the visitors was skipped by Ted Marriott, with his wife, Jean, leading and Tony Izzard and Bob Lawrie making up the quartet in their 25-13 win.

Townsend qualified for the final stages of the county league beating Welwyn and District by 6-0. The rink of Alfie Long, Jason Hall, Peter Armstrong and Andrew Briden won 24-18, while Peter Thomson, Andy Bates, Simon Gilbert and Danny Macro were 22-14 winners.

In the semi finals of the London and Southern Counties fours, which was played at Wanstead, Townsend took on Sidcup.

Townsend led 19-17 but by the last wood were no less than four down. But skip Armstrong managed to push his own first wood in for a 20-17 win.

The four going into the final at Bounds Green are Carl Robinson, Mike Cowell, Alan Charran and Armstrong.

In the district club league Townsend beat Batchwood 4-0. The top rink was Alan Tucker, Laurie Rackham, Jason Hall and Simon Gilbert.

Townsend arranged an away day to Wymondale Dell bowls Club near Norwich.

The visitors came out on top by four rinks to two and by 16 shots. Clyde Martindill, Ron Seymour, Andy Scarborough and Chas Prior won 21-12 while Richard Morgan, Bob Lawrie, Thomson and Roger Potter ran out 20-11 winners.
