St Albans Hockey Club maintained their 100 per cent start to the league season with a 2-1 victory at home to Bedford.

The Tangerines took the lead through a low penalty corner shot from captain Matt Davey on the stroke of half-time.

A defensive lapse midway through the second period allowed Bedford an unchallenged equalising shot, before Davey grabbed the winner with an expertly placed penalty corner drag flick 15 minutes from time.

St Albans Ladies shared the points after a 2-2 draw with table-topping East Grinstead.

The Saints took the lead in each half from penalty corners but conceded late field goals in each period.

Meanwhile, the club’s development officer, England and GB’s Ellie Watton, has confirmed the club’s half-term hockey camps will be on October 29 and 30 at Oaklands with top level coaches including international players.

The camps are open to all members and non-members aged eight to 18.

The respective league campaigns continue on Saturday, with the ladies’ first team travelling to Bedford while the men visit Cambridge City.
