St Albans Hockey Club men's firsts came within 90 seconds of an East Premier A win over City of Peterborough as they were denied victory in a 4-4 draw.

Andy Halliday's side looked on course to claim the points but were left frustrated after the visitors snatched an equaliser at the death.

Matt Davey and Mark Lowden scored either side of a James Champion goal to ensure it was level at 3-3 heading into the final ten minutes.

A diving-to-score training session the previous week paid rich dividends as Champion stretched to score his second and put the Tangerines 4-3 up with nine minutes of the match remaining.

But the late drama deprived the hosts from taking maximum points.

The second XI, led by Ann-Marie Davenport, thumped Bromley-Beckenham 5-1 to stay top of East Division 1S, with goals from Annie Barrett, Jo Weston, Julie McConnell and two from Fiona Nekeman.
