Two Harpenden Bowls Club teams will face each other in the quarter-finals of the county competition after fourth round victories.

Dena Roberts, Janet Hubball and Linda Newby beat a team from Potters Bar 23-12. With reserve Sheila Rider in to replace Lucy Ratcliffe, Jenny Redford and Beryl Birch beat a Northaw and Cuffley team 19-14. The winning sides will now come up against each other in the next round of the competition.

Two men's county triples teams are also through to the quarter-finals at Harperbury next Thursday. Tom Muir’s team won at Rosedale by three shots while John Williams, Noel Roberts and Tony Redford won at Holwell 24-4.

The remaining top club ladies team was knocked out of the competition on Sunday by Rowley Lane losing on shots, after two rinks won and two lost.

In the first round of the national two fours, one of the Harpenden teams enjoyed a comprehensive 45-18 win against Harperbury.

In the same competition Harpenden’s other team, having already won a preliminary round match, defeated Bishop Stortford in the first round. After 16 ends Harpenden had a lead of ten shots but after a fightback by Bishop’s Stortford the winning margin was reduced to three.

Harpenden had a tough match against Potters Bar in the second round of the county club championship but eventually prevailed 70-61 winning two of the three rinks.
