Harpenden Bowls Club earned a victory at Tring in the County Top Ten competition.

On a very tricky green Tom Muir made a great start for the team by winning the singles 21-8. Harpenden went on to win the triples, draw the fours and lost the pairs.

In the first ladies county league game two teams played at home. One side played De Havilland winning convincingly 33-9 while the other team lost by nine shots to Hatfield.

Four mens teams are through to the third round of the county pairs. Muir beat Garry West from Townsend, Nick Muir beat St Albans, while John Osborne also won against Welwyn Garden City. New members Stephen Maynard and Roy Polley also won against Shire Park.

In the first round of the ladies county pairs, Val Thomson and Pauline Taylor beat J Tester of Rowley Lane and Lesley Tutt and beat Pat Feeney from Potters Bar 19-18.

Jennie Redford and Lucy Ratcliffe overcome Ann and May Gunn of Shire Park 22-19 but Janet Hubball and Liz Bradley lost to a Welwyn Garden City team.

In the district league midweek game with Potters Bar, Harpenden won two rinks out of four.

Potters Bar came out top on shots winning 82-74. Harpenden’s top rink was Barrie Hills, Keith Davison, Tony Smith and Colin Driscoll. The result gave Harpenden 30 points compared to 50 for Bar.

In the national men’s senior pairs second round, Noel Roberts and Tony Redford beat Stuart Stamp from Rowley Lane 21-18.

Both the men and ladies teams in the semi-finals of the county triples lost to their opponents. Ratcliffe lost to J Sellek of Bushey and Nick Muir lost to M Plume from Buntingford.
