London Colney twice equalised to earn a 2-2 draw at home to Cockfosters in the South Midlands Premier Division on Saturday.

The Blueboys started brightly, putting their previous defeat to London Tigers behind them, with James Ewington firing the ball just over the crossbar.

But the visitors opened the scoring after just 12 minutes when George Ironton’s cross was headed home by Jack Grosvenor.

The Blueboys nearly hit back with an equaliser soon after when James Ewington chipped the ball towards the goal but goalkeeper Ravan Costable managed to tip the ball over the bar.

In the second half the Blueboys pressed for an equaliser and were duly rewarded after 53 minutes with a superb goal. Charlie Smith unleashed a 25-yard strike past the keeper to make it 1-1.

Cockfosters regained the lead from a counter-attack when Courtney Lawrence tucked the ball home after his first effort was blocked.

The Blueboys’ heads did not drop as first Smith had well struck shot saved and then Ewington had a effort blocked while Russell Gallagher fired in a low drive that went just wide of Constable’s left-hand post.

But Danny Fitzgerald drove his team on and they were rewarded with the equaliser when his pass set up Stef Geraldes for a composed finish in front of goal.

The Blueboys are away to Biggleswade this Saturday.

The woodwork saved the Blueboys right at the end when a free kick smashed against the bar and post.

London Colney Reserves won 8-0 away at Chipperfield Corinthians in the Herts Intermediate Cup with goals from Sam Campbell (2), Archie McClelland (2), Niall Lysaght, Cain Davey, Dan Parkinson and Dan Westmore.
