Five students from Harpenden JKA Karate Club achieved their first orange belt on Sunday.
These included three generations of a family with grandmother Diane Trinder, mother Michelle Dansie and son Zak Dansie.
Diane is a police community support officer and returned to karate training in July this year at Harpenden JKA. She encouraged her daughter and grandson to join her at the karate club and they were all awarded their 9th kyu, or orange belt, in a grading with Sensei Gary Stewart, 6th Dan, from the technical committee of JKA England.
Harpenden JKA Karate Club is based in Batford Methodist Church in Lower Luton Road.
Beginners are welcome on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6pm to 7pm.
