St Albans City joint manager James Gray felt let down by his players after their 4-1 thrashing at strugglers Weston-super-Mare on Saturday.

The Saints were well beaten as they dropped down to second bottom in the National League South to leave them entrenched in a relegation battle.

Gray said: “I feel a little bit let down that the players have done that today because we had a gameplan and we’ve not really stuck to it. Too many individuals were off their game today which was strange coming off the back of a good victory against Wealdstone.

“We’ve just had another inquest in there. But you don’t want to keep having inquest after inquest. Things need to change and unfortunately we’ll have to try to do that now.”

The visitors were second best in the first 45 minutes but managed to go into half-time goalless.

But the Saints conceded the opener straight after the restart when teenager Bradley Ash slotted past goalkeeper Joe Welch.

Ash doubled the hosts’ lead seven minutes later and he completed his hat-trick to seal the victory.

City grabbed a consolation through Louie Theophanous’ tenth goal of the campaign.

But Weston rounded off the scoring through Scott Wilson to complete a miserable afternoon for the Saints.

Gray, whose side host Gosport tonight, said: “You can’t keep making individual errors and it’s tough to take at the minute. We haven’t made them work for any of their goals. They’ve been gifted again and there’s a lot of work to do.

“We didn’t really earn the right to play today. We huffed and puffed and managed to get to half-time but I thought we were second best in the first half.”

The Saints travel to Lowestoft Town on Saturday in the FA Trophy third qualifying round.

There is a team and supporters' coach going to Lowestoft Town.

The coach will depart at 9.30am from the Clarence Park entrance to the ground.  Since the coach has a limited number of seats available, anyone going should book as early as possible.

To reserve £15 seats, call Ian Rogers on 07714 145862, or alternatively you can book at the game against Gosport Borough.
