City of St Albans Swimming Club (CoStA) ended the Arena National League on a high on Saturday with the team scooping third place in the Premier Division’s third and final round.

The final scores for the gala, which took place at Harlow Leisure Zone, saw Romford Town finish top with 272 points, followed by Colchester (269), CoStA (246), Bishop’s Stortford (243), Enfield Swim Squad (239), Shiverers (213), Watford (165) and Hoddesdon (145).

CoStA head coach Mike Cole said: “Finishing third in a Premier Division round of a national league is no mean feat and it’s testament to the hours of training our young swimmers put in and their dedication to the sport. Very well done to all who competed.”

The event saw some top-class racing from CoStA’s young athletes, with many swimmers winning their events.

First places were achieved by Evangelina Fisher with a time of 1.15.60 in the ladies' open breaststroke, Liam Curran who finished the men’s open butterfly in 58.58 and Shannon Stott in the girls’ Under-15 butterfly with a time of 1.05.84. The girls’ Under-15 medley relay team also claimed first position with a time of 2.09.58.

Kieran McCarthy was narrowly beaten in the boys’ Under-13 breaststroke to claim second with a time of 1.15.61, while Grace Wylie also achieved runners-up spot in the girls’ Under-15 backstroke (1.08.33).

Thomas Cadenhead swam to second in the boys’ Under-13 freestyle, marginally missing the top spot in 1.02.87, while Edward Loveman was runner-up in the men’s open breaststroke (1.07:95) and his brother William finished in the same position in the boys’ Under-15 breaststroke (1.13:25).
