St Albans Hockey Club have finished top of their England Super 6s men’s indoor hockey league after winning all their games over a two day tournament at Oaklands this week.

The Tangerines were in dominant form all weekend beating Harlston Magpies 3-1, Barford Tigers 13-3, Lichfield 7-1 and Bournville 5-4.

David Williams scored 11 of the hosts’ goals over the four games. Paul Cooper, Martin Scanlon and Steven Friend all netted four, John Mould scored three and Ravi Vijh and James Champion netted one each. The win means the team have qualified for promotion playoffs next weekend.

Meanwhile, St Albans ladies finished sixth in the Women’s Super 6s tournament after winning two out of four games at their tournament in Nottingham over the weekend.

In league news, the ladies thirds smashed Potters Bar 6-0 at Oaklands on Saturday after Rebecca Burton, Georgina Impson Davey (2), Vanezza Zabert, Liz Cleverly and Libe Fadrique all scored for the home team. The ladies fifth team won 6-2 against Tring after Daisy Rabbit, Rachel Jones and Jone Yarza all scored twice.

The men’s second team won 5-2 against Wimbledon thirds (goals from Ranjit Sembi, Matt Street, Alex Stobbard, Scott Apps and Ben Carey).

The men’s thirds beat Wimbledon fifths 6-2 after Josh Rose (2), Charlie Beedle, Zafe Pang, Harrison Briggs and Steven Spicer all scored.

The men’s fourths won 4-3 against Royston and the men’s fifth team beat Letchworth 2-1.

St Albans’ sixth team beat Shefford and Sandy 4-3 following a brace each for Stuart Johnson and Dan Reeves.

A goal from Harry Hemsi helped the seventh team to a 1-1 draw against Hertford, the eighth team beat Bishop’s Stortford 4-0 and a 1-0 win for the Praetorians against Surbiton rounded off a successful weekend for the club.
